Company Background:
We have been a family owned sign business since we opened in 1993. Since then we have branched out into many area of the sign industry including having a decal shop at Raceway Park in Englishtown NJ from 1995 until 2007. We started developing our own websites for online sign sales in 1999 along with fleet vehicle accounts and traditional sign customers.
Over the past several years we have developed online design tools for our customers to create their lettering and kits instantly on their screens. (see here) The process now allows us to take their design and remake it and ship it quickly. We developed most of the techniques and some of the software in to order to get, process and ship the internet orders. This process has been ongoing and as it progresses, we find ourselves becoming more efficient with less effort. We have always strived to get the orders made and shipped in a timely manner, but now we are at the point of getting almost all the orders out the next business day. This can create quite a fast paced environment in order to make that happen. We have been blessed over the years with a great group of people working with us.
Production:
Our season starts getting busy around the end of February and peaks in June. Then it slowly trails off and then gets busy again for the Christmas holidays. So right now we are ramping up for the spring season. Our production manager is taking a position in another field shortly, so we have been picking up the slack since then.
Ideally, we are looking for someone to learn the process with the goal to have him/her manage the internet side of the business.
Facilities:
Our shop has always been around 1200 square feet of production plus a shipping room and industrial garages for vehicle lettering installations. In 2000 we moved from Howell to the industrial complex in Jackson on West Commodore Blvd. We were there for three years while I was building my current home in Jackson. We designed our current properly in such a way to facilitate the business and the home on the same properly, saving most of the cost of industrial space. It is a good fit for us, as 75% of our business is online sales with USPS mail shipments, plus 10% truck lettering and 15% large corporate projects.
Our current shop configuration is around 1500 square feet of production and offices plus 800 square foot for shipping and six garage bays for lettering and projects. We are located in a residential neighborhood with very low traffic.
Job Requirements:
We have a short order production system where the web orders from the previous day (or weekend on Mondays) is processed each morning (Monday thru Friday). Sign files are made, materials are cut and processed, then orders are packaged and shipped that same day. In addition, fleet lettering kits and other signage will be added to production periodically. We are looking for a motivated person to learn our processes of making files, cutting materials with computer cutters, processing the materials and shipping them.
Starting Skills:
– Basic windows computer operation
– Processing the vinyl materials
– Packaging
– Shipping label creation
Skills You Will Learn:
– Sign system software
– Light graphic design (recreating customer supplied design)
– Production
– Creation of magnetic and other sign products
Must Haves:
– Ability to get to Jackson NJ – 45 min drive or less
– Quick learning and retention of learned tasks.
– Honesty and integrity.
– Management skills. Eventual shop management is our goal.
– Light phone work. Occasionally answering phone questions and taking phone orders as skills progress.
– Light inventory management (production materials)
Time Requirements:
20 to 30 hours per week to start
Full time possible depending on work performance and work load
Monday thru Friday – All shipments must be made and shipped by 3pm
